Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/EMT Refresher/Advanced Airways



EMT Basic

Course Description:  
This course provides entry-level training in emergency medical care techniques. Learn to assess a patient’s condition at the scene of accidents and emergencies and to manage medical conditions and trauma             emergencies while transporting patients to the hospital. Course completion meets the minimum requirements   for firefighters and emergency room technicians. Instruction will cover anatomy, physiology, and emergency pre-hospital care.  The 160 hours of required instruction includes 36 hours of on-the-job training. Upon successful course completion, graduates are eligible to take the National Registry exam for nationwide certification as an EMT. 

Prerequisites:  Immunizations, certification with the American Heart Association BLS for the Healthcare Provider and a passing score on the HOC Math/English Assessment test.  EMT students must be able to lift 120 pounds and meet other requirements for this physically strenuous job. 
          
Fall Program Fee:  $350.00
Additional fees required for EMT t-shirt, textbooks (including protocol handbook and National Registry test               study guide), equipment kit, National Registry test and for skills testing.

Advanced Airways
        
Course Description
Earn EMT Advanced Certification.  This course is approved by San Diego County EMS provider No. 37-0503 for   8 CEUs.  

Prerequisite:  You must be a current EMT to take this class.
           
Fall Program Cost:  $75.00
Course fee does NOT include skills validation fee ($40). 
Prior to 48 hours of class, there is a $25.00 refund. No refunds within 48 hours of the class.        

Fall/Spring Schedule:  There are several classes held throughout the year.

EMT Refresher

Course Description:           
Refresh your skills and earn continuing education credits. Instruction focuses on medical/trauma                           assessment, airway/breathing emergencies, AED, circulatory, neurological, soft tissue, musculo-                           skeletal, and obstetrical emergencies. This course is approved by San Diego County EMS provider                       No. 37-0503 for 24 CEUs. 

Fall Program Cost:  $100.00
Course fee does not include skills validation fee ($75). Prior to 48 hours of class, there is a $25                             refund. No refunds within 48 hours of the class.
